A fascinating four-part series on some of God’s most amazing creations: stars.
The sun is quite a strange star to humans because you can’t look at it through a telescope or with binoculars. In fact, we can’t even look at it with our eyes yet it is the most well-known star. And the reason for that is very simple; it sustains life on planet earth and only planet earth.
The sad reality is, in the fallen world we live in, if you were to remove the sun you would have trillions and trillions of things die, nearly immediately. However, you do not have to worry about the world dying when the sun is gone because God has given us a promise that will be kept.
And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
Now, I rest my faith in that!
Few people understand the true size of the sun because of the shared size with the moon. Turns out that the sun is placed just perfectly away from the earth so that the moon and the sun are the same size when viewed from earth. Amazing! However, when you study the true size of the sun we notice a huge difference.
For example, did you know that you can fit 64,222,479 and a half moons into the sun? And that the appropriate scale of the moon compared to the sun would be 1/862,840; that means you would have to multiple the moon 862,840 times just to get it to be the width and height of the sun?
With that small misconception wiped away the earth steps up to test itself against the sun’s massiveness.
The earth can go into the sun 1,297,863 times. If each one of those earth’s equaled one quarter you could wipe out the national debt of America more than twice. And if each earth represented one word in a normal book you could have 11 500-page novels.
If you cared to go on you could take those earth’s and start counting one every two seconds and you would quickly (or slowly) find yourself one month into the future. And if you took your time and counted one every minute you would wake up (assuming you fell asleep when you were done) in the beginning of 2016!
The sun was given to us by God so that we could live, but one day He will remove it and we will no longer live in this sin-loving world!
