The City Harmonic has really paved a way for themselves with their amazing songs. I am a big fan of the songs I’ve heard of theirs (I’ve heard about 1/3 of their songs). Their “Manifesto” is amazing, “My God” is very moving and “Take Heart” is striking. However, for their song, “Spark”, I have mixed feelings.
The song starts out mellow but quickly drifts into a jumpy theme (like someone hitting the piano keys). It gets a little more upbeat but it doesn’t distract from the message of the song. The lyrics are below:
Could a spark of Your love light a fire in me
Just a spark warm my cold heart
It’s the living that breathe
When I breathe in
Hope I breathe in
Create some meaning again
And I breathe in, peace will be there
Just a stream of love
Ohhh
This little light’s gonna shine
With just a spark to light a fire
Just a spark
Could a spark of Your love light the whole church on fire
When we care for our neighbor
More than we care for style
When we breathe in
Hope we breathe in
Create some meaning God
When we breathe out
Peace will breathe out
Just to breathe out love
This little light’s gonna shine
With just a spark light a fire
Just a spark
Just a spark could change the heart
Just a spark come change my heart
Just a spark is just a start
Light a fire in my heart
Light a fire in my heart
Light a fire in my heart
Light a fire in my heart
A fire in my heart
With just a spark
None of the words contradict anything in the Bible and the song overall gives a good message about being more than every other mediocre Christian!
I may not like the tune all that much in this particular song, nothing directly goes against Biblical beliefs and I have yet to hear a song from The City Harmonic that bothered me as far as the Bible goes . . . let’s pray that it stays that way because they are one talented group!
